Height-Adjustable Desk Buying Guide for Dealers and Importers
Specify a height-adjustable desk for resale: motor count, stages, speed, noise, load, height range, controllers, certifications, using Omni SOLE, LINKER and MULTI data.
A height-adjustable desk is specified on seven numbers: motor count, number of leg stages, lift speed, noise level, load capacity, height range and controller type. Certification and the frame-versus-complete-desk decision come after that. Dealers who compare suppliers on these figures avoid most returns. This guide explains each one and uses the published data of Omni’s SOLE, LINKER and MULTI series as examples.
Motor count: single motor or dual motor
A single-motor desk drives both legs from one motor, usually through a crossbar or telescopic beam that links the legs. It costs less and suits standard-width tops. SOLE is built this way: a single motor, 2-stage legs and a telescopic beam from 900 to 1600 mm, with a frame weight of 20 kg.
A dual-motor desk has a motor in each leg. It lifts heavier tops more evenly and handles wide or deep surfaces better. Choose dual-motor frames for 1800 mm tops, corner configurations or heavy dual-monitor setups. For multi-station benching, check that each station has its own drive: in LINKER, each station adjusts independently.
Leg stages: 2-stage or 3-stage
Stages are the telescoping sections in each leg. A 2-stage leg is lighter and cheaper. A 3-stage leg retracts lower and extends higher for the same leg length, which matters when your market includes both short and tall users. Always compare the minimum and maximum desktop height, not just the stage count.
Lift speed and noise
SOLE is listed with a lift speed of 25 mm/s and a noise level under 50 dB. At 25 mm/s a desk travels its full range in roughly 25 to 30 seconds, which users accept in daily office use. Ask any supplier whether noise is measured at the motor with or without load, because the result differs.
Load capacity and height range
Load capacity is the weight the frame can lift, including the top and equipment. Omni’s height-adjustable desk manual rates its single-motor frames at 100 kg and its dual-motor frames at 120 kg. Have the rated figure for your exact frame and top written on the quotation.
Height range decides which users the desk fits. The catalog lists these ranges:
| Series | Format | Height range | Surface | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SOLE | Single desk | 560-1210 mm (HA-1P); 560-1250 mm (HA-1S) | 1200 x 600 mm top | Front-edge control panel; T-foot frame in white or graphite; single motor, 2-stage legs, 25 mm/s, under 50 dB |
| LINKER | Dual-sided bench, 2, 4 or 6 person | 690-1100 mm (HA-2PD, HA-4PD); 560-1210 mm (HA-6PD) | 1200 x 600 mm per station | Each station adjusts independently; supports power strips, monitor arms and screens |
| MULTI | Flip-top mobile desk | 560-1210 mm | 1200 x 600 mm top | Casters; flips and nests; for training and multipurpose rooms |
| HA | Panel workstation | 730-1220 mm | Panel with worksurfaces on both sides | Lifting columns inside the panel frame; touch controller |
Controllers and memory settings
The controller is the part users touch every day. SOLE uses a front-edge control panel. HA uses a touch controller. Ask whether the controller offers memory presets, an anti-collision function and a child lock, and which voltage and plug the control box ships with. Omni Technology, a group company set up in 2016, develops intelligent control and power-management systems in-house, so controller options can be discussed as part of an OEM project.
Frame only or complete desk
Dealers in many markets buy frames only and source tops locally, which saves freight on bulky boards. Others buy complete desks to control finish and top quality. Decide this early, because it changes packaging, container fill and warranty responsibility. Omni makes steel products such as frames in Yangzhou and wooden products in Rugao, Nantong.
Certifications to request
Ask for the documents that match your destination market:
- BIFMA testing for commercial desks.
- CE for the EU. Great Britain accepts CE indefinitely and UKCA is optional; Northern Ireland follows EU rules. A BS 1363 plug still needs approval by a designated body (see the desk power selector).
- FCC for control boxes sold in the US.
- UL for electrical components. Omni states powered panels and power modules are UL 962A / cUL listed.
Omni’s SOLE product page references CE, UL, FCC and BIFMA. Certificate numbers for Omni’s UL- and cUL-listed power distribution units are published on its company facts page, and the test report for your exact model code is sent with the quotation.
Dealer and OEM considerations
- Customization: every Omni series is marked “Customization Available”, including frame colors, top sizes and control panels.
- Quickship: SOLE is on Omni’s Quickship program: standard finishes ship in 7–15 days from stock, against 25–30 days for standard production.
- Accessories: pair desks with a monitor arm such as KONI and a desktop power module such as OVAL for a complete workstation.
- Capacity: Omni has production capacity for about 45 containers per month across 60,000 m² of factory area.
Test a sample before you order
A spec sheet does not show how a desk behaves. When the sample arrives, load the top with the weight a user will really put on it (two monitors, a laptop, a docking station) and check five things:
- Run the full lift range several times and listen for noise and hesitation.
- Check that both legs move together and the top stays level at every height.
- Push the top sideways at full height and look for wobble.
- Test every controller button, memory preset and any anti-collision function.
- Measure the minimum and maximum height yourself with a tape, and compare with the quotation.
Warranty and spare parts
Omni warrants height-adjustable frames, including lifting columns, for 5 years, and electrical components such as the control box and handset for 3 years, from the shipment date. Valid claims are met with free replacement parts. Controllers and control boxes are components dealers commonly need to replace first, so ask for a small spare-parts allowance with your first container. In the US, OmniMax USA in Anna, Texas supports customer service and parts.
